Independent Task 3: 23 Yin Revolutionaries Discover Aquestria on the Surface of Europa

This work is a light sound installation work which runs for 28 minutes and 1 second and deals with the modern complexities of propganda and how we propagandise each other and the hypnotic nature of a flickering screen akin to Tony Conrads work the flicker.

With the modern world of social media we have found ourselves in a system where we sell ourselves to ourselves. we have found ourselves in a world of either red or blue, two separate teams. you're either right or wrong or your wrong or right, depending on where you look at it. The polarisation of our perception has become an issue when internet websites operate by only showing you similar views to your own because people are more likely to engage with views similar to their own and therefore see more advertising and use their site more. This work aims to play into this feeling.

The work begins by introducing you to the concept of propaganda, how the medium works and why its effective, then it begins by transitioning into youtubers who consider themselves right wing and aims to show you how they convey their beliefs onto the viewer, with keen attention to their manner of speech, the work then falls into this same trap by mockingly introducing some radical left with sound bites out of context and then falls into the more libertarian and conspiratorial content and then ends with a somewhat repeat of the themes of the beginning.

The visual aspect of this work is the recorded light which is projected from a computer screen which features the scrolling of facebook and browsing youtube.

The aim of this work is to enlighten people to how these new media can be used to convey ideas which encourage being on a particular team rather than standing on their own principles.

This work requires a dark room to fully function and can only be shown via projector, as a computer monitor or television screen defeat the under arching idea of that. You right now are just staring at a computer screen.
