Independent Task 2: The Broken Symphonies

With this independent task i used 5 mozart records and hammed a chisel into them to break them into fragments. Initially i was going to make the work into a statement about feminism as the records were from a series called "the great men of music", but i quickly abandoned this idea after experimenting and finding it tacky.

I then took the fragments home and played them on the record, initially it was difficult to figure out how to do it, but i eventually discovered that i could take one side of the fragment to a complete record with the tape and by holding the needle at a certain height i could save the needle from being damaged. I started out by trying to record individual sounds to individual sound files, but this did not work, as it left with half completed sounds. I then made one huge audio file and left gaps of silence between the sounds, eventually i discovered that i could tape many fragments to the record and play them all at the same time.

I then put all the sound fragments into 8 separate logic tracks. I put reverb on the centre track to try and fill in some of the gaps of silence. I stripped the silence on the tracks and randomly placed the sounds that remained randomly into the 8 tracks.

I then uploaded the Songs in album format to Bandcamp each track has their own track image.
